‘Amazing Potential.’ University Of Miami Doctor to Start Stem Cell Trial for Coronavirus Patients

Multiple groups in the U.S. and abroad are championing rapid exploration of cord tissue mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for COVID-19 patients. Here is some exciting news about a new clinical trial based at the University of Miami Health System and Jackson Health System in Miami, Florida.

This trial will evaluate the safety, and explore aspects of efficacy, of administering umbilical cord tissue MSCs to patients with severe lung inflammation resulting from COVID-19. This new clinical trial builds on the promising results reported from a small study in China utilizing clinical grade MSCs, which we described here, that showed promising results in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.
